Context: Undergraduate research with Prof. Zhen Gao, Artificial Microstructure Physics Research Group, SUSTech. I am the first-listed co-first author of the manuscript arising from this work.
Research focus
How can the internal structure of a photonic mode be used to control where a wave travels? This project explores the connection between pseudospin, nonreciprocal edge transport, and routing in gyromagnetic photonic crystals.
Project overview: helical, chiral, and pseudospin-locked chiral edge transport, with illustrative dispersion diagrams. This figure introduces the transport concepts; experimental results will accompany the manuscript.
My contribution
- Led full-wave modeling and sample design, and characterized topological phases through band structures, eigenfields, and topological invariants.
- Designed measurement configurations and participated in most of the VNA transmission and near-field experiments.
- Designed photonic routing structures, wrote the manuscript, and prepared its figures.
The project has given me experience connecting a physical mechanism to a sample design, comparing simulations with measurements, and communicating the resulting study.
Current status
The manuscript is in preparation.
